Well I did it. 3hours 29. I was hoping for 3hours. But my leg gave way at 15k. I finished it all the same. Thanks for all the donations.
Im doing the run to raise awareness for Meningitis as it affected Sam my wife in October 2006.
Heres a little from her story about it.
It was a Wednesday morning in October 2006 and I woke with a headache, it had started the day before at computer training, just a niggle initially. I’d put it down to laboriously searching for fictitious patients and the notes on the hospital computer system for a couple of hours, I’d gone to bed and thought it would be gone by the morning. But it hadn’t, just to move my head hurt. Feeling like a fraud I called in sick with ‘a headache’. Perhaps it was a migraine, I’ve never had one before, and maybe this is what one's like!
With a cocktail of headache pills, I spent the day trying to minimise the pain - lying down, sitting up, eyes closed, cold compress, a darkened room, nothing helped. Much to my resistance and with a large bump on my head from passing out several times on the floor, I was dragged to the out of hours Dr service. Only to be told continue with the painkillers and come back if it’s not better tomorrow. The following day I returned and was admitted to hospital. After a head CT, ECG, bloods, exposing my body so I could be observed for a rash (including having to flash my bottom) and a spinal tap, I has diagnosed as having viral meningitis. After 5 days in hospital being pumped full of intravenous anti virals I was discharged and 4 weeks later returned to work.I WAS LUCKY2,000 people are affected each year in the . The most dangerous form Meningitis B kills 1 in 10. Survivors are often left with physical impairment, limb amputations or brain damage. Please sponsor me so we can help to find a vaccine. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
