Story

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I am doing the Moonlit Memories Walk in aid of The Rowans Hospice for my dad Len Nixon who sadly passed away there on the 3rd January 2010 after his long and very painful battle against bowel, liver and lung cancer.

The Moonlit Memories Walk is a 12 mile walk around Portsmouth on Saturday 19th June 2010. My Mum and brother are also doing the walk but as mum cannot walk I will be pushing her in her wheelchair for the 12 miles.

About two and half years ago my dad's bowel cancer had come back but also had spread to his liver and right lung. Not going into too much detail it came to the stage where the tumour caused his bowel to close up resulting in dad not being able to eat as nothing would pass through and being in so much pain. Dad's cancer got worse in November last year with him going in and out of hospital regularly.

Dad spent his last Christmas at home with us caring for him with the support of The Rowans Hospice. During Christmas and New Year dad decided to go into The Rowans Hospice. They cared for him so well in there, dad was comfortable and still had his dignity when he passed away.

The Rowans Hospice is in Purbrook, Waterlooville. It costs approximately £3 million a year to run. The NHS gives only a fraction of this cost with the rest needing to be raised. The money raised helps the hospice give care to those like my dad in their final days of life making sure everyone is not their own.

The Rowans Hospice also do in-patient care, day care and much much more. More information can be found out here,

please visit http://www.rowanshospice.co.uk/?contentId=10

Without the support and care from The Rowans Hospice so many people would be on their own.

My target is £200 but it would be great if we could raise more.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

So please dig deep and donate what you can it is much appreciated.
