Following our London Marathon back in April, it’s now the turn of the girls! On Sunday 24th September, ‘Bobs Babes’ will be walking a half marathon from Harwich to Mistley as part of the 2023 Mayflower Trail Challenge to raise money for St Helena Hospice 😊
In early 2021 my dad, Bob aka Grumps, started to feel poorly and after repeated trips to his GP, the hospital and a variety of consultants and specialists we were given the devastating news in July that he had cancer. After several bouts of chemotherapy and further tests, we were informed they couldn’t identify the primary cancer meaning the treatment simply wasn’t working. On 12th October 2021 my dad passed away at home in his bed surrounded by me, my brother and our amazing mum, just the way he wanted it to be.
In the last week of his life, St Helena Hospice provided invaluable support to my dad, mum and the family and made those last few days a little more bearable. They gave my dad a little ray of sunshine each day, always arriving with a great sense of humour and a gentle touch and we will never forget their kindness.
For these reasons, and despite getting a ballot place in the 2023 London Marathon, I wanted to raise as much money as possible for St Helena Hospice so they can continue to provide the same level of support to others that they did our dad. Thankfully I’m surrounded by a bunch of lunatics and great mates who have all decided to get involved too meaning that there will be 8 of us running the marathon for this amazing charity.
We’ll be putting on a host of events over the next 6 months and we would all be extremely grateful for any support you can give us, whether a financial donation or a raffle prize to give away.
