Story

They go to great lengths, we go to great heights!

In a moment of madness I have decided to jump off the UK’s tallest sculpture, the ArcelorMittal Orbit, on Thursday 4 July. Luckily for me, I shall be aided in this endeavour not only by a selection of very carefully tied ropes, but also by the wave of support that your collective sponsorships will no doubt provide me.

For those that don’t recognise the name of the sculpture in question, it is the (very tall, 114 metres) red structure that sits outside what was the Olympic Stadium in Stratford (now home to West Ham United Football
Club). The abseil down is around 80 metres but, passing it twice a day on the train to and from work, I am certain it is getting taller…

I will be representing RBC alongside around 20 other heads of the Equity Capital Markets teams from 14 different banks including Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley, to name just a few and together, we are raising money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

The Royal Marsden is at the forefront of providing new treatment
options and improving the lives and survival rates of cancer patients all over the world. Statistics tell us that one in two of us will have cancer within our lifetimes, and as one of the world’s leading cancer hospitals, The Royal Marsden needs to ensure it can be there for the growing number of cancer patients.
To do this, their charity is
raising £70 million to build the Oak Cancer Centre and have raised £52 million to date.

The new centre will increase capacity to see patients by 40 %, and double the number of patients referred to the hospital for early diagnosis, saving more lives by catching cancer earlier. For the first time, The Royal Marsden will house over 300 of the world’s leading researchers alongside patients and clinicians, driving forward advancements in cancer treatment, research and care.

Our collective ambition is to raise £200,000 and I would be highly appreciative, as would all those that benefit from the care and treatment that the hospital can provide, if you could sponsor me by donating anything you can.

Thanks, and wish us luck!

Darrell
