Today is World Parkinson's Day 2018, so I’ve decided to share my just giving page with you as I am trying to raise awareness of this devastating condition and vital funds so that we can find a cure.
Hiya, my name is Dara Emmanuel, and in 2016 our family life was turned upside down in sheer shock, when an amazing family member was diagnosed with this cruel disease.
Parkinson's disease is a neurological condition that involves degeneration of the brain for which there is currently no cure.
Each person diagnosed will have different symptoms making diagnosis and treatment complicated.
It can effect anyone, male or female.
When your loved one is made aware they have a permanent illness, it is mind numbing for them and you.
When the illness is not familiar or understood socially, it can be very hard to tell friends and family.
Many don't know about the symptoms, or the outcome so making them aware of the full extent, is heartbreaking at times, so you can become reluctant to share. This lack of awareness can be very isolating.
No one should feel like this going through a diagnosis so we have to change this.
In our family, we have faced many challenges on the road with Parkinson's over the past 2 years and we know there will me many more on the twisting road ahead. But we are a strong loving family and always try to make each other laugh, enjoy the day and see the positive in everything.
With this in mind, after the initial fog has slightly lifted, I decided to do something in aid of Parkinson's UK . Our lovely children decided to challenge me to climb a rock face ( If you know me, you will know I DONT do anything like this!!!!!) 😳Then abseil back down. Our 2 oldest children have decided to join me on Saturday 1st of September to bring more awareness and show support. I can’t tell you how humbled and proud I am as they are sharing this with me. x x
We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £1000, which will help fund research into better treatments and ultimately a cure ( I really want to see a cure within my lifetime and I am 42) . We are determined to help current patients and to change the future for others.
If you can support our charity abseil by donating that would be fantastic and mean so so much to me, but if it’s not possible for you at this time I understand, having 6 children, I know what it’s like. If you could all share this, that would make a huge difference for the awareness part of my fundraising challenge! Who knows even someone famous my get on board to support little old me !!!!
