Story
I have decided to take on the challenge of riding from Land’s End to John O’ Groats from 10 – 18 September 2022 in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. On each day of the challenge I will be riding between 101 and 119 miles across the country (anyone interested in the route can find more details here: http://www.rideacrossbritain.com/route/classic-9-day/
I have been training five days a week in preparation for the ride through a mix of outdoor and wattbike training rides, since September 2021 (other than taking a few months off to overcome some injuries and the loss of a bike through an accident) and have reduced trips to the pub and consumption of pizza considerably in anticipation of the event.
I wanted to do this challenge to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society’s valuable research into Dementia. As some of you may know, my Dad is currently living in a care home having been diagnosed with dementia a few years ago. It has been hard seeing the effects of the condition both on my Dad and our family as the disease progresses. I am hoping by raising money for this valuable charity I can contribute towards finding a cure or ways to slow down the effects of the disease so that other families don’t have to go through the same thing. Alzheimer’s Society predicts that by 2025 one million people will be living with the condition in the UK and millions more families, partners, carers and friends will be affected. They aim to support people living with dementia and their loved ones, as well as investing in valuable research into the disease. If you would like to sponsor me I would be very grateful, no matter how big or small the contribution, knowing that together we will be providing vital funds to this charity that is so close to my heart.
