Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June I will volunteer for 12 weeks on a development programme in
Cambodia. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings
young people together to fight poverty and make a difference
in struggling communities where it is needed most. ICS works with communities that
have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young
people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate
about long term community development.
I’ll be working alongside local volunteers from Cambodia, on a project
that aims to increase secure livelihoods for the poorest and
most marginalised people in the Ratanakiri province. Cambodia has a
young population- 43% of the population is under 15 years old, and 60% is under
30. An estimated third of the population live on less than a dollar a day.
Ratanakiri is among the least developed provinces in Cambodia, with three
quarters of the population illiterate and an under five mortality rate of
nearly 25%.
I need to raise £800 for Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue providing the opportunity I have been offered, and bring about positive change in developing communities. You can check out their amazing work here: http://www.vso.org.uk/
If you're interested in following my fundraising campaign, you can keep track of how I am progressing here on my Justgiving page. Any donation you provide will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries. Please contribute as much as you can spare. All donations will be greatly appreciated, and you can be sure the funds will be put to good use!
Thanks for your support,
Dan
