Story
I am arranging a group challenge to complete the Yorkshire 3 Peaks between close friends, family and my Airswift colleagues in loving memory of my dad. He has always been a great inspiration of mine and has motivated me to accomplish many things.
My father was loved by many people, he was a physically active man, weight training most days and enjoyed a very healthy lifestyle. He was always cracking jokes, and trying to make people smile. His personality was infectious and he could hold a conversation with anyone about anything. A close family man, a loving husband, father and my best friend. On the 11th March 2015 my dad went in to hospital with stomach pain after a routine hernia operation. He was kept in overnight. On the 12th March 2015 he was told he had terminal pancreatic cancer and had 3-6 months to live. He was offered therapies to try and prolong his life, but declined as he could not bare the thought of not being in control and letting us all watch him decline. To our despair my father never made it out of the hospital or through the full weekend. On the 14 th March, I held my dads hand for the last time, watched him take his last breath and said my final goodbyes as he was taken from us.
My father was a proud man, and proud of us all. He was a wonderful father who provided me with the best years of my life supporting me every step of the way. He was a true family man, inspirational and intelligent. Always wanting to do the right thing and always on hand to help anyone. All I have now are memories and images which I will cherish. Through this challenge and many others I want my dads memory to live on. Hopefully we can raise money to stop someone else ever feeling the way our family and I have felt. If we can make a small difference and help others then we have achieved our goal and I know dad would be looking down on us all proudly pushing us on every step of the way.
The challenge itself consists of the 3 biggest peaks in Yorkshire around 27 miles of walking to be completed in 12 hours. Starting with Pen-y-Ghent, then Whernside, and finally Ingleborough, before walking our way back to where we started at the base of Pen-y-Ghent.
