Story
Let's get to the point. I want your money.
They say that lightening doesn't strike twice, which is why I sat on the DLR through Canary Wharf last week fondly remembering running through there on the marathon last year, then checked the date and with relief thought, Macmillan haven't called and I'm on the 11 week training limit, I'm safe, I'm not running. It's a year to the day since I received a call from Rob at Macmillan asking how my training was going (great I lied, I've been training constantly...I hadn't) and would I like to do the marathon (yeah sure).
Speak of the devil and he shall appear. The phone rings. Hello Danni? It's Rob from Macmillan! Someone dropped out...
11 weeks, 4 days till Marathon day. Milage done since September - 0.
You all know the story by now, in that this whole running debacle has been fuelled by drunken bets and double dares over the last three years, taking me from couch potato to a training talking bore and every mile has been for Macmillan. There are some debts in life that you can't repay, and mine is to Macmillan and the people who helped my dad in his final days with us when he lost a good fight with the Big C back in 2002. Words can't express the support and kindness shown to both him and my family in our darkest hours, which is why we need to raise as much money as possible so they can continue with the incredible work they do.
In the last 3 years I've been blessed by you lot who have helped raise over £7000 for Macmillan. Have you any idea how much your donations have done to help those living with cancer? Let's have a little recap shall we?
Just £10 could keep five typical Macmillan information and support centres stocked with all the information resources they need to support people affected by cancer for one hour. £25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support. £50 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that buys someone with cancer a microwave, making it easier for them to prepare their food. You lovely lot have so far helped raise over £7000 and now we need a final £2000. Just think about how your donations have helped. Please please PLEASE, even if you only have a quid to spare, donate it because every penny counts.
So on Sunday 13th April I'll be running the London Marathon in memory of my Blue Eyes and favourite man on earth, Pat Whelan who would die laughing if he saw me so much as lace up a pair of trainers and remembering all the lovely people in my life who have kicked cancers arse and live to tell the tale, and those who we've lost and who still miss every day.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you xx
