After the run...

All was going well for a personal best of 1' 37". I was hitting my splits with 30 seconds in the bag but at mile nine, my left quad started to seize.

I was still on target so I eased off for half a mile to see if the leg would loosen up. Alas the hill of doom was still to come and the leg said no thanks. Basically limping the last two miles (but never stopping), I put on a brave face for the cheering crowds on Broad Street and tried to run normally but the finish wasn’t a pretty sight!

On reflection, completing the 13.1 miles in 1 hour 45 mins 10 sec wasn’t bad and I don’t think I was overtaken at any point by someone dressed as a banana.

I’m just about recovered now and would like to thank you for your support. There’s still time to donate if you haven’t had a chance yet. Your donations will help tackle poverty and injustice in communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America - wherever need is greatest, for people of all faiths.

Before the run...

This is the seventh Birmingham Half Marathon and I've run each one of them. Each time faster than the previous year.

2008 - 1 hr 56 mins 28 sec
2009 - 1 hr 50 mins 23 sec
2010 - 1 hr 45 mins 44 sec
2011 - 1 hr 39 mins 44 sec
2012 - 1 hr 39 mins 07 sec
2013 - 1 hr 38 mins 30 sec

How long can I keep improving? Fingers crossed that this year is faster too! Your donation HELPS ME IN A BIG WAY during the "Hill of Doom" towards the end of the run. God knows why organisers of a fun event would put a 550 feet climb towards the end of the course but hey ho.

Over the years we have raised money for the following charities;

Myasthenia Gravis & Cancer Research.
Birmingham Children's Hospital Charities.
Diabetes UK.
Save the Children.
Alzheimer’s Society.

This year I am raising money for CAFOD so we can help families affected by war in Lebanon, Gaza and people facing Ebola and famine in Sierra Leone and other countries. You will help people from all cultures everywhere in the world.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving and they will not send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to CAFOD - saving time and cutting costs.

Big thanks. Dan.
