Story
On 12th May, Dan Miller and Mike Cox will set-off from Herne Hill Velodrome in London on the Duchenne Dash, to cycle 300km to Paris in 24hrs whilst raising vital donations to help Duchenne UK find effective treatments for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).
In September 2017 Dan’s nephew Jacobi Whyte, age 3, was diagnosed with DMD. DMD is a genetic disorder which affects around 1 in 5000 boys born in the UK that causes muscle weakness and wasting. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. It is caused by a fault, known as a mutation, on the dystrophin gene. Dystrophin is a protein that protects muscles; without it, muscles are easily damaged, and their strength and function is weakened. It eventually affects all the muscles in the body, including the heart and lungs.
Jacobi is growing up fast. He has developed a passion for golf and won his first trophy age 7. He enjoys nothing better than riding the hallowed fairways of Inverallochy Golf Club on his golf buggy or going somewhere different to play a new course. He accomplished one of his dreams this year by playing at the home of golf, to follow in many of his heroes footsteps by playing – The Old Course at St Andrews. He still enjoys going down the seashore during the summer months, using creels to catch lobsters and brown crabs.
