We are driving the Rhino Charge to raise money for the Rhino Ark and their conservation projects in Kenya. It protects the vulnerable wildlife; it protects the forests; it protects the water towers ensuring water for millions of people. And it protects the poor farmers on the slopes of the mountains, giving them a sustainable and higher income, enabling them to pay for primary, secondary and higher education for their children.
We can't think of a better charity benefitting that many people, wildlife and nature at the same time.
The Rhino Charge is an annual fundraising event for 4-wheel drive enthusiasts and conservationists that takes place in Kenya. The 2015 Rhino Charge will be on May 31.
The main objective is to raise funds for the maintenance of a fence around the entire Aberdares and bordering forests and for fencing of Mt. Kenya National Park as well as Mt. Eburu in the Mau mountain range. The purpose of these fences is to protect the wildlife and the forests from poaching and encroachment. At the same time the fence protects the people near the park and their crops from the wild animals and hopefully changes their perception of wild animals as threats to a valuable resource. The Aberdares fence was finally completed in 2009 – the challenge is now to raise sufficient funds to manage and maintain the fence line in perpetuity!
A minor goal for Danish Rhino Charge Team is to win the 4-wheel drive event, not by the fastest time, but by the shortest distance! Our team of resident Danes in Kenya is participating for the 14th time. In 2005 we won our class and came third overall in our old but tough "old lady", a Toyota Land Cruiser 1969 model. Four years ago we came 6th overall and 1st of the standard cars! The aim in 2015 is to show the competitors that experience, cunningness and fitness counts for more than expensive machines and WIN our class again. And we do have a great team and the car is just as fit as we are.
We would be delighted if you could assist the Rhino Ark with your valued contribution. ALL contributions will go directly to RHINO ARK TRUST FUND - the charitable trust building and maintaining the fences. Our team has pledged to raise 1M Kenya Shillings (£6,800) by 30 May 2015 - we hope to be able to raise 1.5M!
