Story
Hi. Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our Alder Hey Children's Hospital challenge, has been organised directly by Alder Hey Children's Charity.
Our total fundraising target is £7500. At the time of this page going live - February 2021 - we had raised 57%, £4899.77, which has already been paid to the Alder Hey Children's Charity, because of Covid.
The challenge was originally organised for Nepal, but rearranged to Peru due to Covid. Along with my good friend Daniel, we started out the idea of the trek and fundraising for Alder Hey Children’s hospital inspired by Daniel’s daughter Maisie.
At the age of 3, Maisie was diagnosed with a condition called Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). Which mean she needed open heart surgery.
If Maisie hadn't had this surgery, by the time she would have reached 13 years old her heart & lungs would've been severely damaged and her life would be irrecoverably changed.
As a BIG thank you to the entire Alder Hey team, Maisie wanted to show her gratitude when she turned 13. So in early 2019, she raised £1,147 for Alder Hey. She put her heart & lungs to the ultimate test, by climbing over 20,000 ft, up a variety of mountains in the UK...She is fantastic!
Unfortunately, with the rescheduling of the trek, Daniel will not be able to complete the event in 2022.
However, Inspired by Maisie and driven by my own personal experiences with suicide and mental health awareness, I will trek over 50km and climb up 1500m, in part of the Andes, in Southern Peru. Along with all the training that goes with it……
In December 2016 my fiancée took her own life, after battling mental illness for several years.
Becoming a lone parent of Ruben & Phoebe, 3 & 2 at the time and having my own personal battles, I became involved with raising funds and awareness for mental health charities over subsequent years, predominantly through physical challenges. During this difficult period, Daniel supported me and has been a great friend throughout. Our fundraising efforts and promotion of mental health awareness in children and adults continue…….
