We are Action Mental Health, working to improve mental health in NI

Story

On Saturday 2nd May I plan to row the distance of the English Channel on a rowing machine in aid of Action Mental Health.

This equates to a 26.2 Mile row (42,165 Meters) the same distance as a full marathon. I plan to do it in one sitting only stopping to hydrate. I estimate it will take me between 4 and 5 hours to complete.

Over 250,000 people suffer with a mental health problem, mental illness affects 1 in 5 people in Northern Ireland, when matched to other countries Northern Ireland has the highest rates of mental ill health. 25% higher than in England. More than 70% of people who die by by suicide are unknown to mental health services. Half of all these problems start before the age of 14.

Action mental health can support local peoples mental health and well-being through their recovery services which offer we-being, vocational and employability programmes. In addition to this they offer emotional and resilience programmes in schools and the community to build a more resilient youth, Foster healthier work places for the future and create a more caring and nurturing environment for generations to come.
