Story
A bit of background on our little family for those who don’t know.. most of you DO know our crazy, chatty, funny, strong willed 6 year old Aiden. He’s certainly a big character now and almost everyone he meets remembers his name... and he certainly wasn’t much different when he made his dramatic entrance into this world!!
Aiden was born 12 weeks premature, he was born at 27 +6 weeks gestation weighing just 2lb 13oz. We never found out why- its been put down to being spontaneous, just one of those things that can happen to anyone! Now he reckons it’s because he didn’t like it in my tummy because it was too dark.. haha!
He spent a total of 6 weeks in SCBU (Special Care Baby Unit), it was terrifying seeing his little body covered in wires and sticky pads, in a little plastic bag in an incubator to keep him warm and safe. I can’t praise the staff enough who helped care for him and they sung praises about Bliss- the charity who have made leaps and bounds towards better care for premie and sick babies, increasing survival rates and also, supporting parents when everyone else is busy supporting your little baby. Those first few weeks of his life were the most difficult of ours. I put on a brave face in the hospital and repeatedly broke down at home. We got a lovely little support pack from Bliss telling us what to expect, where to get additional support and also a journal to write in too!
This year the charity is aiming to raise £100,000 and I hope I can make just a small contribution to that, as our own little thank you to them. That little tiny baby is now well and truely a loud bubbly active kid who’s doing just fine, making everyone laugh, and being an amazing big brother! He will be joining me and his little brother on our little lights walk on the 17th November which is World Prematurity Day!
