Story
The Virgin Money London Marathon is one of the great British sporting events, combining elite athletics, mass participation and record-breaking fundraising in one race. The course is a gruelling 26 miles 385 yards long, passing through the streets of London from Blackheath to the famous finish line at The Mall and thanks to BEARS charity I am one of the lucky individuals participating this year.
The Marathon will no doubt prove challenging but I am determined to be make it to the finish line (injury free, hopefully) and I would ideally like to complete the race in under 4 hours preferably 3hr 30mins - ambitious I know. Having watched the marathon on several occasions to support friends, I have always been in awe of resilience and determination of so many runners; the variety of ages and abilities is amazing and was inspirational to me. Marathon day has a carnival atmosphere and support for the runners is overwhelming. After 3 unsuccessful ballot attempts BEARS have offered me a position in the 2016 Marathon and I'm so excited to take part on finally being able experience Marathon day as a runner.
BASICS Essex Accident Rescue Service (BEARS) may not be a recognised charity to most and I would like to take this opportunity to highlight all the hard work and efforts of the group of Doctors and Paramedics who respond voluntarily to provide advanced pre hospital care to those that need it.
