Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be traversing the Annapurna Massif in Nepal during October 2023, to support Alder Hey Children's Hospital with the fantastic work they do every day. Caring for over 330,000 children, young people & their families, every year.

At the age of 3, my daughter Maisie was diagnosed with a condition called Atrial Septal Defect (ASD).  Which meant she needed open heart surgery.

Being diagnosed with ASD, meant that part of Maisie's upper chamber in her heart was missing. This causes an issue with the direction of blood flow and puts a large strain on, and potentially damages, other major organs.

The ASD resulted in Maisie undergoing 6 hours of open heart surgery and being placed on a heart bypass machine. Once the Doctors opened Maisie's chest, they said Maisie's heart was like a 'sponge' full of tiny holes. Those holes were closed up at the same time as the ASD procedure.

Alder Hey Childrens Hospital were so supportive all of the way through Maisie's diagnosis and treatment. They continued to support her until she had her perfect heart.

If Maisie hadn't had this surgery, by the time she would have reached 13 years old her heart & lungs would've been severely damaged and her life would be irrecoverably changed.

As a BIG thank you to the entire Alder Hey team, Maisie wanted to show her gratitude when she  turned 13.  So in early 2019, she raised £1,147 for Alder Hey.  She put her heart & lungs to the ultimate test, by climbing over 20,000 ft, up a variety of mountains in the UK...She is fantastic!

Maisie also completed a 15,000ft skydive in April 2023 raising a further £535 to our goal!
