This page was set up to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust but specifically for the Unit at Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield.
The care and support they gave to Dan during his brave fight against cancer was extraordinary with every member of staff making a difference to him during his treatment there. It is because of them all that we want to raise as much money as possible in the hope that others may benefit from this incredible facility.
Danny was diagnosed with a brain tumour in November last year after several months of feeling unwell with headaches. He underwent major surgery and astounded his surgeon with his speed of recovery and inspirational attitude. He came home for Christmas and January 2013 saw the start of his treatment at Weston Park. Six weeks of radiotherapy was then followed by six months of chemotherapy which Dan faced with bravery, optimism, courage and mostly a smile. There were good and bad days but Dan continued to live life to the full whenever he felt well enough to do so.
In September we were given the devastating news that Dan's tumour had returned. The remaining weeks with Dan were spent with him and the staff at the Unit. With his usual good nature, and never once complaining, Danny continued his battle with cancer. His family, friends and girlfriend Kelsey spent precious times with Dan during those last few weeks. Everyone of us making our own memories and taking our time to say our goodbyes.
Sadly Dan passed away on Thursday 7th November 2013 - almost a year to the day after his original diagnosis. That year has given us tears and laughter, fantastic highs and unbearable lows but we must all take inspiration from Dan and his unfailing enthusiasm, endless optimism and amazing sunny nature. He never once asked "why me" or said "it's not fair" and we can all learn so much from his inspirational attitude to life.
Danny will be missed so much by all those who loved him and the many who's lives he touched. Our thanks and gratitude go to everyone at Weston Park. We will be forever grateful.
