Story
My wife and I have decided to run the Cardiff half marathon. I have decided to raise money for the brain tumour charity, as our nephew James was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 2 years old. He underwent numerous operations, including to remove the tumour and chemotherapy, which resulted in him developing numerous complications. Including hearing difficulties, balance and walking difficulties, developing sepsis whilst in hospital and many other complications. Despite all this, he is an absolute superhero. Never complaining and such a happy and full of life little boy. After completing chemotherapy and ringing the bell, a few months later, after a routine scan, his mum and dad, found out the tumour had returned. This time it was decided he was a suitable candidate for a trial radiotherapy in America. The family uprooted their lives for 3 months and went to live in America. Again, James being the superhero he is, took it all in his stride. After returning and another couple of months of routine scans, the family found out again, that James, now 5, that the tumours have returned, this time in new places. As these tumours are too dangerous to operate on at the minute, James is now receiving intracranial chemotherapy. This boy, along with his twin brother Joshua, just absolutely amaze everyone they meet. He goes to have chemo in hospital in the morning and then it’s straight to school in the afternoon. He is such a happy, caring little boy, that everyone who meets him instantly falls in love with him. Joshua gives support and helps James without even realising it. After James had the first operation when he was diagnosed at 2, it was Joshua without even realising who helped James talk again. He is just a normal little boy, who loves superheroes and Lego...... not to mention “it’s a small world”- if you know you know! 😂
During this awful time, the family have had a huge amount of support from the brain tumour charity, so I couldn’t think of a better way to give back.
