Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I chose World Cancer Research Fund because almost everyone knows someone who has or currently are fighting cancer.
When I met my fiancé she told me her family's story, her dad fought cancer for the first time before she was even born, after that he has gotten sick another three more times. Every time it gets tougher to fight it, but her family always keep fighting together. Her dad says he fights for his family, always for them.

When he got diagnosed with cancer the second time my fiancé was only a baby, her brother was 2 years old. Their mother was taking care of a baby while learning how to deal with diabetes that she herself just got diagnosed with, while also learning that her son had a heart deficiency and had to have several surgeries done on his heart, all the while her husband being ill from cancer. They were told it was going to be tough, that he might not make it, but he beat the odds. He made it through.

The third time they were told the same, he wasn't going to make it. This time my fiancé was 13 years old. They sold their house and moved in to an apartment, they didn't want the home they built if he wasn't going to be there. But then something changed, he was responding to the treatments. He got better, once again he beat it.

Everything was going good, her dad was cleared of cancer. Years went by, no sign of it coming back.
Unfortunately, a close friend to their family got really sick. He was diagnosed with liver cancer. He fought for years, but eventually his body couldn't take anymore treatments. He passed away in his sleep on a cold autumn night.

They went to his beautiful memorial to remember him and honour him for one more night.
Two months after their friends memorial my fiancés dad was very tired all the time, he was in pain, he was diagnosed with cancer for the fourth time. It had spread all over his body. It was in his organs, in his muscles, his feet, around organs, everywhere except from his neck up. After some time of tough treatments he was getting better, but this time it wasn't going to leave him completely. He was diagnosed with chronical cancer, he is going to get treatments for the rest of his life. He is tired, but he's doing okay.

My fiancés dad is my inspiration for running this marathon. In spite of being ill he continues to work, fight and be a good husband and father everyday. Their bond as a family only growing stronger, never wavering.

I want to do something, I want help in the best way I can. Do something for the ones who have been fighting and the ones who still are.
