John was born on 21st May 1944, he grew up in Rudmore, Portsmouth.
He joined the tug boats aged 15 and stayed with them until he retired at 65, he sailed the world with his job and rarely knew where he was heading.
John's main passion was spending time building model boats and he would spend hours a day perfecting his models. He was also a keen Pompey fan and kept a close eye on results at Fratton Park.
In August 2015 John was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent a major operation. As a result of the operation, he had his voice box removed and had to breathe and talk through a breathing stoma. Sadly, John's cancer spread to his lungs and he had to have half a lung removed, the cancer spread further to his bladder and after a long brave battle John passed away on February 5th 2021 surrounded by his family at his home.
