Story
Vikki and I had always got on well but the three weeks we spent together at the Rio Olympics were really special. She defied some medical opinion even to be there but was determined to be part of it and was rewarded with Britain's greatest ever Games. She led our tight-knit little team with her characteristic passion, humour and bloody-mindedness. It was hard work but incredibly rewarding, and it's the highlight of my career. I will be forever grateful for that.
Vikki knew her onions when it came to athletics, so I dread to think what she would have made of my running style. I signed up for this half-marathon a while ago, but after she died earlier this month, I thought I could put my efforts to some use beyond my own fitness . She always spoke so highly of the care she received at the Royal Marsden and I would love to help them with their amazing work.
The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre. We ensure our nurses, doctors and research teams can provide the very best care and develop life-saving treatments, which are used across the UK and around the world. From funding state-of-the-art equipment and groundbreaking research, to creating the very best patient environments, we will never stop looking for ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.
