Story
My Dad was involved in a motorcycle accident in his early twenties which left him in a coma for 12 weeks and ultimately blind. Football has always been a massive love of his and I’ve acted as his visual guide since the age of 6. As I grew older, I made it my goal to pass my driving test ASAP in order for us to attend games further afield.
For many years now, we’ve been chipping away at visiting all 92 Football League Clubs (now over 80 each), driving up and down motorways far/wide and as we enter the final stretch, we’d like to support a couple of causes close to our hearts. Firstly, Blind Veterans, an incredible institution that helps ex soldiers dealing with sight loss. As well as visiting their main centre in Brighton on many occasions, Blind Veterans have also taken Dad on a skiing trip in Italy, as well as finding a local volunteer to regularly serve as Dad’s tandem bicycle partner. Secondly, continuing the theme of freedom and giving Dad a sense of independence, the Blue Cross animal shelter paired us with our current dog, a French Bulldog, Skai, who we have now had with us for 9 months. She has been a blessing and has allowed Dad to escape the house at times, roaming the village we live in and come across fellow dog walkers in the process.
I’ve contacted as many clubs as possible and some have been fantastic, notably Liverpool, Man City and Notts Forest donating signed shirts for us to auction off - with all proceeds being split between the aforementioned charities.
In addition, and I really do hate asking, obviously no obligation but if you’d like to support our efforts and two incredible causes in the process, I’ve created this page for donations.. Anyway, I’ll stop babbling now.
Thank you! x
