Story
I am walking/wheeling 10km at Parallel London 2017 to raise funds for Disability Rights UK (DR UK) again, where I act as Trustee., London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will play host to Parallel London, the world’s first fully accessible and inclusive mass participation run for everyone, on Sunday 3 September 2017.
Disability Rights UK and myself - as 'disabled people leading change', want a society where everyone can participate equally. We have 3 priorities: independent living; careers opportunities; and influencing public attitudes and behaviours. DR UK, within 3 years, will enable at least 50,000 diverse disabled people to have voice and influence, connecting with each other and with us. We support change agents and enable disabled people to exert power and influence. We will also work in partnership with other Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) to showcase approaches to social, economic and public participation and share learning, including through joint projects. We will work with many organisations in a position to act, in all sectors, to support them to put disabled people’s priorities at the heart of their policies and practices. Campaigning to strengthen and protect disabled people’s rights is also part of our work. DR UK is itself led by people with diverse experiences of disability and health conditions, from different communities.
DR UK needs funds to carry out this essential and socially valuable work. I hope to raise money by participating in Parallel London. Please support us by donating and spreading the word!
