Story
Daniel Holden & Stephen Pammenter
Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
The Event
In a week long endeavour (25th August - 1st September 2013), Stephen and I aim to walk the entirety of the Cleveland Way covering approximately 110 miles in total; this averages out at around 15 miles walking per day. The walk itself will involve pitching tents and staying at youth hostels spaced carefully along the route within the North Yorkshire dales.
More about the Cleveland Way involving towns travelled through, terrain, sights, history and various other details can be found here: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/clevelandway/
Over the past couple of months, we have conquered Scafell Pike (one of the 3 peaks of the UK), the Wyre Way over 2 days (41 miles) and this seems to be a fitting challenge to push the boundaries!
The Charity
I wanted to do something in memory of my Grandad, Chris Halhead, who died of Motor Neurone Disease in 2005. This trek offers the perfect opportunity to honour him and raise both awareness and money for this charity.
MND is a devastating, progressive disease that destroys motor neurons, the cells that control essential voluntary muscle activity such as speaking, walking, breathing, and swallowing. It can occur in both adults and children and is always fatal.
Despite how much is now known about the disease, there is still much to learn about the specific causes of MND.
=> Over 5000 people in the UK are affected by MND today.
=> MND kills 3 people every day in the UK
=> There is no known treatment or cure.
=> 1,200 newly diagnosed every year.
