Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 12th August 2018 I will be cycling the Yorkshire Tour through the Yorkshire Dales to raise awareness of dementia research and funds for Alzheimer's Research UK. I feel tremendously privileged to work as a dementia scientist and I am delighted that Alzheimer's Research UK has supported my research. However, working in this field has given me insight into the scale of the task at hand to create a world without dementia.
If you want to know why I am cycling for a world without dementia then consider this...
1) Dementia costs the UK £26 billion a year, this will rise to £55 billion by 2040.
2) Dementia has higher health and social care costs (£11.9 billion) than cancer (£5 billion) and heart disease (£2.5 billion) combined.
3) For every £1 spent on dementia research overall, £11 is spent on cancer and £6.50 is spent on heart disease.
4) Aside from figures, dementia devastates lives. Watching a proud and strong person decline in such a way, rendering them incapable of basic tasks, is one of the most heartbreaking things I have had to witness in my life.
We must be the generation that defeats dementia. I'm asking you to donate even a small amount so we can work towards this aim.
