Kinabalu conquered!

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who has donated, I have made it up (and down) Mt Kinabalu. Despite the aches and pains, it has been a very worthwhile experience and you have raised a substantial sum of money for a very worthy cause.

Each stage presented a different challenge from the sweltering heat of the jungle through the wind-blasted tundra and up to the predawn chill of the barren summit. The descent was no less taxing as the heavens opened and I was "treated" to a tropical thunderstorm whilst climbing through the jungle. However, the aches are receding and will soon be gone.

Many thanks to all who have so far shown your generosity and just remember it is not to late for those who have not got around to donating yet.

Thanks to the generosity of so many people far more money was raised by the climb of Mt Fuji than I could have hoped for. Thank you all very much indeed.

My sponsor's generosity has proved so inspirational that I have now decided to see if I can raise a little more money, again for Cancer Research UK, by climbing Mt Kinabalu!

For those of you who don't know, Mt Kinabalu lies on Borneo and is the highest point between the Himalayas and Papua New Guineau. At 4095m, the highest point is Low's Peak which is over four times higher than Scafell Pike, England's highest point and thirteen times higher than our local landmark, Roseberry Topping. Situated in Taman Kinabalu national park (Sabah) the lower stages see a testing climb through the opressive humidity of jungle rainforest (wach out for snakes!) followed by a bleak and barren climb overwind-blasted fields of exposed granite.

I anticipate that the climb will be exhausting and present just as many challenges as Fuji, albeit of different character. I hope that you will support me by donating via this page; all proceeds once again to Cancer Research UK. Many thanks in advance. Dan

OK, here's the score: I'm going to use the opportunity that my job has given me this trip to climb Mt Fuji (Japan).  Its 3776m high and is likely to be damn cold at the top. If you've seen photos of Japan, you'll probably have seen photos of Fuji-San. The season opens on July 1st and that's the day I aim to climb it. It is still classed as a live volcano and it last erupted in 1707: scientists say we are over due an eruption so who knows, I may get unlucky!

Last year our family lost my mother to cancer so I'm hoping to raise as much money as I can in the short time available to go towards research into this life-robbing disease.

It will be tough for an unfit, overweight slob like me so I'm hoping that you will make sure that the blood, sweat, toil and tears worth it.
