I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon working in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in the West Country in UK.
In 2010 and 2011, I was part of the spinal surgery team, together with colleagues from Norwich, Exeter and Cardiff visiting the Cure International Hospital in Lusaka in Zambia. The much deprived population in Zambia is considerably disadvantaged and have very little access to specialist care in spinal disorders. There are many patients with neglected severe spinal pathology leading to hideous deformity and disability.
We have managed to help many of these patients but a continuing effort is needed.
Mr. Rai, who has begun this work several years before and has been maintaining a continuing effort, has set up the Spine Aid charity to help maintain this effort. I am fund raising for this charity by cycling from London to Paris to help maintain this good work.

What your donations help to buy:
All money donated to Spine Aid directly funds patient treatment, who are predominantly children. We provide nutrition, transport and medical equipment to help these children. All monies raised goes directly towards their care.
So far Spine Aid has raised money towards:
• Purchase of an operating table
• Spinal equipment and anaesthetic gases
• Egg fund - providing two eggs per child per day while in hospital to give adequate nutrition and aid a speedy recovery
Our charity fund is managed by the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Trust Charitable Fund.
