The 22nd April this year will mark 5 years since I lost my mum to pancreatic cancer, 12 days after my 21st birthday. Thats why, on the 21st April, just 1 day before this anniversary, I'm taking part in the London Marathon for the very first time.

To those that know me well I can imagine the surprise that sits on your face just reading this, that I would even consider taking part in this event. However, I feel the time is right to start doing some good rather than focusing on the bad, just as my mum would have wanted.

Pancreatic Cancer UK funds:

- research into earlier diagnosis and improving treatments for pancreatic cancer.

- a support service for patients and their families. They have an oncology nurse on staff who answers questions and can give information about treatment.

- campaigning to increase awareness of the disease in the public and to therefore increase support from the government.

The training is going well so far. Two of the most difficult aspects have been giving up alcohol since the start of November (yes, no drink over xmas!) and running on my reconstructed anterior cruciate ligament (op May 2011). As always, Zoe has supported me throughout and continues to be my main source of motivation.

You all know how much my mum meant to me and what an amazing person she was, so please help me to raise as much money as possible and we can all beat cancer. You never know, if we raise enough another spectacular MO may make an appearence on my face.
