Story

Some of you might be aware and others not so, but this has been the toughest year for my wife Becky and I. In April 2021 she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer after discovering a small painful lump in her right breast. Following further checks some lymph nodes under her armpit were also found to contain cancerous cells. As you can imagine this was horrific news to deal with, but the staff at the Primrose ward made it easier to digest with compassion and professionalism. Throughout the treatment Bex has routinely visited the ward and been in regular contact with the staff. She has had chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy. All the staff have been amazing. Their job must be an emotional roller-coaster, but they manage to maintain their friendly, caring approach to a person.

On 30th December 2021 Bex had her last radiotherapy session and got to ring the end of treatment bell. I am immensely proud of her. She has fought this terrible disease  with such strength and dignity. It's been extremely tough, but she's managed to continue being an amazing mum to our two boys and make their year fun and eventful.

I have not spoken to the ward yet as I know they are extremely busy people. Any money raised I am more than happy to let them decide what they want to do with it. However Becky and I had the idea to improve the waiting room. Whether this be through the purchase of a TV or the rejig of the room itself. One thing I did notice whist waiting for Bex was the room did no have much privacy and the ladies waiting for news/treatment are incredibly vulnerable and often upset. Anything to make their visit slightly more comfortable/bearable is a win in my eyes.

The ride -

James Barkell and I will be riding from Plymouth Hoe to Snowdon then walking up it between 28th April and 01st May 2022. This is a decent challenge and we will trying to raise as much money as possible.
