Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running in The Great North Run to raise money for the Meningitis Now Charity.
I have no memory of being ill when I was young but my family have explained to me why I have several scars on my hands and ankle.
When I was 2 years old I was rushed into hospital and diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis and meningococcal septicaemia, blood poisoning which is shown by the horrific rash associated with this illness.
Thanks to a quick diagnosis from a doctor at home the illness was caught quickly. I was treated at Bishop Auckland Hospital and lucky enough to leave hospital three weeks later with only several scars.
After leaving hospital I had to learn how to walk, talk and eat with cutlery again, activities I was quite accomplished at before my illness.
Many are not so lucky and meningitis claims many lives every year. Please help me to raise money for Meningitis Now to support their research and efforts for a future where no one loses their lives to meningitis.
