Story
On May 13th through to the 14th this year, I completed this years Ten Y Fan challenge to raise money for the charity, Big Moose. Up and down Pen y Fan 10 times over 24 hours…it hurt both physically and emotionally but I’m pleased to say I did it!
Big Moose are a brilliant charity who do amazing work supporting people who are struggling with their mental health and offer such important early intervention to those who really need it. They are saving lives and with more support, can save even more. I’ve had to deal with my own mental health issues over the past few years as I know lots of others have too. I’ve also known people who sadly decided they couldn’t go on too. So it’s important that these charities exist and improve awareness.
After the euphoria and adrenaline of the event wore off, I felt in a bit of a lull. So when Big Moose offered up placements for this years Cardiff Half Marathon, I decided to snap up a place and continue my sponsorship for them a bit longer and extend my fundraising target. But I wanted to do a bit more! So what started as a one event challenge has now turned four!:
- Ten y Fan May 13th/14th ✅
- Cardiff Half Marathon October 1st ✅
- Machen Trail Half Marathon November 25th ✅
- Celtic Trail Race Half Marathon December 16th ✅
Thanks again to everyone who has already sponsored me this year. The support has been amazing and means the world to me. If you haven’t and would like to, it would be really appreciated. The beat goes on!
Here’s their story…
during lockdown we were providing therapy for lots of people and were told by five people that without our intervention they would have ended their lives.
due to early and impactful intervention 5 people were still alive. 5 families weren't grieving and the world still had these amazing humans in it.
we listened to people's stories & one thing that we kept hearing was that the therapy & intervention that people needed was taking too long and was inaccessible for so many.
and so, just like that, project 1 million was born.
throughout 2022 we are aiming to raise £1,000,000 which will be used to provide therapy and early intervention for people.
this is a huge goal and we cannot do it alone.
our goal is to help people with their mental health, prevent suicide and reduce homelessness.
we will achieve our goal and we will save lives.
in 2020, 5224 people killed themselves in england and wales. this project will help to reduce this number. we hope you will join us.
