Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So your cycling 500k... Yep.. And you've done no training... Nope... Have you got padded shorts... Nope... Any Lycra... Nope, rugby shorts and cotton t-shirt should be fine no?... Your going to have a very sore bum... That should be worth some class of donation... Liv is thankfully more Organised and while also having done no training has at least picked up a few pairs of padded shorts.
But really the donation is for Beyond Ourselves, a charity set up by our friend Stu, who previously cycled from South Africa to London on a tandem. Liv joined him on that trip for a week to cycle through Malawi, before going on to work for a few Months in Tanzania. But he's at it again, with Thandie the tandem, this time cycling from Africa to China to tandem to raise money for Beyond Ourselves. For a bit of background:
'Beyond Ourselves' charity partners with three Community Primary Schools in the Copperbelt Province in Zambia. Each year 10 students from the graduating Grade 7 classes at all three schools are selected to receive a bursary fund which enables them to continue their education into Grade 8 and beyond. These students are academically able but their families lack the finance to continue investing in their education. Currently, only 2 in 19 children in Zambia who start Primary School complete High School. To have the opportunity to attend and complete High School is life changing. This year they have their first students entering into Grade 11. To enable one student to continue in High School for one year costs just £92, that's £460 to complete Grades 8-12.
We hope by doing this epic and challenging cycle on the tandem we can raise some money to help fund their schooling.
