Story
The Forward Trust empowers people to break the cycles of addiction or crime to move forward with their lives. Since 1991, they have been working with people to build positive and productive futures. They believe that anyone is capable of lasting change, whatever their past, as celebrated in their More Than My Past campaign. The Forward Trust services have supported thousands of people to make changes to create better lives with jobs, family, friends and a sense of community.
Having struggled with various addictions over the years, I know the pain and the loneliness of addiction all too well. I have lost friends to substance and alcohol related deaths. It’s a disease that effects not only the individual but also everyone around them.
Three and a half years ago I walked into the rooms of recovery and I have never looked back. Getting clean and sober is the greatest gift I’ve given myself, my family and loved ones.
Running has always helped me stay grounded and now sobriety has given me the opportunity to run the London Marathon to raise funds for Taking Action on Addiction. I am one of the lucky ones. I came out the other side. Raising funds for a cause this close to my heart is one of the ways I can give back.
