Story
On the 28th March 2020, Shaun, Eddie, Sharon, Jason and myself will be swimming 5km as a team to help raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.
Back in May 2019 I decided to start swimming again after a 30+ year gap since I swam as a child. Its been a shock how tough swimming is after such a gap and how much you forget. After quite a lot of public sessions to gain a bit of confidence I took the plunge and joined the Masters Section of a local swimming club. It was there I met Shaun Finch who has become a very good friend. Shaun was recovering from 3 strokes which he suffered in March 2019 all within one week and was encouraged to swim as part of his recovery. Together we have slowly worked on and built up our stamina and technique.
Taking part in Swimathon gives us a real challenge to work towards and hopefully with your support we will raise money for two really important Cancer Charities. We will be joined at the event by Shaun's son Eddie, his sister Sharon and his nephew Jason.
We do hope you will support our efforts. Below is a little bit more info about Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie which will help you understand why we are doing this.
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
Together we can really make a difference. Thank you so much for your support in helping raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
