Story
On Christmas day 2016 I was admitted to the Lancaster Royal A&E with a swelling to the stomach. I spent one week on the AMU ward were they treated me for a collapsed lung and drained litres of fluid from my body. During tests and scans they found a Mass the size of an orange in my chest cavity area which was the cause of my fluid problem. By the time they moved me to Intensive care were I spent the second week they had diagnosed I had an aggressive form of cancer. As my body was producing large amounts of fluid I could not be transferred to Christie Hospital for treatment. Lancaster Oncology Department decided to give me the CHOP (first stage Chemo treatment). Christie specialist subsequently informed me that the decisions to start treatment by Lancaster Oncology Department saved my life so I am extremely great full for all the kind and caring treatment I received at Lancaster Royal Infirmary.
I was transferred to the Teenage & Young Adult Ward at Christie Hospital Manchester on 7th January 2017 where I was diagnosed with Acute T- Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. I spent over a month on this ward being treated and also being counselled to come to terms with the cancer and the 3 years of treatment that lay ahead for me. The whole team at Christies were and continue to be fantastic, caring and considerate towards me and my family and many more patients I witnessed going through differing stages of cancer. In May 2020 i finished a 3 year course of ‘Maintenance’ treatment which was taking oral chemo tablets and Intravenous Chemotherapy once a month.
I am now nearly 18 months in full remission and treatment free, so I have decided to take this challenge on when I am feeling the best I have ever felt. This Charity is very important to me so any donations will be greatly appreciated
