Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This is my first fundraiser/endurance event. I wanted to do something to raise money and awareness for the British Skin Foundation (BSF) after seeing my dad go through the mill with an aggressive form of skin cancer - a stage 3C malignant melinoma - this year.
I was naive when it came to the seriousness of skin cancer before this, wrongly thinking it was easily curable.
What was a small lump on my dad's knee, caused from a strong and intense exposure to the sun, became an aggressive tumour that required multiple surgeries - the final one leaving a 14inch scar from groin down to knee after lymph nodes were removed to stop the spread of the disease.
The recovery from this was long and painful, with large lumps of fluid called seromas needing to be drained regularly and even walking was a struggle for 2-3months afterwards.
Thankfully the surgery stemmed the spread, and he now has to have check ups every 3 months to make sure it hasn't returned - but it could come back at any time.
I'd trained hard for this before my son Clark was born in May, but parenthood set me back a little. I've now picked things up and will be putting myself through plenty of stress to get through this 14mile run as well as the 30 gruelling obstacles along the way.
Any money donated will by very gratefully received and will help fund research into curing and caring for people with skin cancer.
Thanks,
Dan
