Let's talk and learn more about sex and relationships!
Central government has massively reduced grants to local governments, forcing them to make huge reductions to their budgets on local services.
Part of local government spending is on 'public health' (educating and supporting everyone to lead healthier, happier lives. This includes services that support better sexual health.
I take the view that sexual health is less about what goes on below the belt and more about what goes on in our heads and hearts- do I know about possible sexual risks? am I happy in my sexual relationship(s)? am I safe and are others safe too?
So I think that money spent on talking and learning about the bigger picture around on sexual health is really important.
I wish our government agreed too and committed more money to this most basic of human needs. I wish they'd make relationships and sex education compulsory in our schools too.
I can't wish away my time and so if putting money where you know it can make a difference floats your boat, here's a chance.
METRO runs peer support schemes so that marginalised groups can come together to share and learn about sex and relationships. METRO administers a hardship fund to support people infected and affected by HIV who are also in poverty and need additional support to live well. METRO also runs 8 youth groups for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people who may have no other space to be themselves and meet others in a safe and supported environment.
Pop in a donation if you want to see this continue.
I'd like more government funding, but that isn't happening right now.
