Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Cancer touches and affects so many peoples lives, either relatives, friends or even personal battles against this terrible condition. Last year a group of us ran the Bupa 10km in London to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund( PCRF). Only 3% of those diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer survive 5 years or more, compared with 95% for Testicular cancer and 80% for Breast cancer.
Coming up to 2 years ago now, we lost Hafina, our very dear friend and God-mother to our daughter Ellie. She survived just 8 weeks from diagnosis having suffered for such a long time. The symptoms are vague and it is difficult to pick up early. PCRF desperately need funds for research into a cost effective and simple test to aid early detection as well as funding programs into finding treatments to increase the chances of survival.
Hafina was a truly wonderful and inspirational woman to all who knew her. She touched so many peoples lives and is sadly missed. I have decided to raise the bar this year and am deeply touched to have been given a place by the charity to run for them in the 2011 Virgin London Marathon. My body is slowly falling apart, with bad knees, back and a recent neck operation in June last year. Although I am well past my sell-by date I am just ok for the use-by date and I am compelled and determined to face the challenge ahead. I am already seeing a physio having torn a calf muscle in training!! (For those of you who know me well that will come as no surprise!)
Please support my efforts and the charity to raise as much as we can for this worthy cause. I have set myself a relatively high target and I will be over the moon if, with your generous help, I can get close to this amount.
So please dig deep and donate now. Your money will truly make a difference. Thank you so much.
