Story
Edinburgh Marathon 2009
*Completed in 5hrs 34mins*
I would like to give a personal thanks to all those that not only donated to MacMillan Cancer Support, but also those that provided moral support during my training and preparation, including those that believed I could complete this challenge. I would also like to give a special thanks to my father who supported my on the day of the event, thanks!
I successfully completed the Marathon in 5hrs 45mins, although not the fastest time in the world it is something I hope to better next year when I intend to participate again. This year’s event was incredibly tough due to the weather (Apparently the hottest day of the year so far), this for many was more of a challenge than the distance itself.
History
I have committed myself to running the 2009 Edinburgh Marathon for a very worthwhile cause; this being the need to raise funds for and highlight the amazing work carried out by Macmillan Cancer Support and would greatly appreciate your moral and financial support.
I have taken this commitment very seriously as I have previously lost family members to Cancer, most recently one of my best friend's father died due to the disease. I am hoping that through my efforts to raise money for Macmillan that I can help support and improve the lives of those affected by cancer and also highlight what people can do to help!
For those of you know that know me you will agree that with my rather generous height and stature would not naturally make me identifiable as a Marathon Runner. On occasion I have been known to state the following “What I lack in physical ability I make up for in Stupidity and Stubbornness!” Well in this instance this is not the case! I have committed a significant amount of time and effort to training and preparing for this event (since August 2008) and I feel that I have made great progress. I have absorbed advice and guidance from veteran Marathon Runners and have adhered to a very rigorous training plan. Three weeks ago I have reached my training target of running my first 20miles atMarathonpace, this was the first time I have covered this distance since completing my first every Half Marathon over Salisbury Plain many years ago. My training plan will ensure that by May 31st 2009 (Marathonday) I will be fully prepared both mentally and physically.
Once again I would greatly appreciate both your financial and moral support, therefore please give generously and please feel free to call or email me with your comments of support.
Thank you!
