Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
"Your child has cancer" is a sentence that no parent wishes to hear. Unfortunately my wife and I were told this in February this year when our two year old son, Zac, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). He is now a couple of months into a three and a half year programme of chemotherapy and other treatments.
Survival rates for childhood ALL have improved dramatically in the last 20-30 years thanks in large part to the significant research that has been undertaken by charities like Children with Cancer, the leading national children's charity dedicated to the fight against childhood leukaemia.
However survival rates are certainly not 100% and with one new case of childhood ALL being diagnosed in the UK every day there is a genuine need to continue the research to further improve the outcomes for Zac and others.
I am running in this year's London BUPA 10K on Sunday May 27th to raise money for Children with Cancer, in order to help them continue their battle to improve cure rates for cancer even further. We have already seen first-hand how the ongoing research refines treatment plans and strives to lessen the many side effects that the chemotherapy causes.
Realistically I'm not yet fit enough to be able to run a marathon or something even more challenging but am starting my fundraising efforts with this 10K event which will be my longest ever race. Assuming my dodgy ankle holds out I hope to continue fundraising with more events in the future. I've recently slipped into the 45-49 age bracket so please don't expect any record-breaking - I'm hoping to manage it in about an hour, or just under.
I am looking to raise a very challenging £10,000 (so '£10k for 10K') and would be very grateful if you could sponsor me for this worthy cause with whatever your wallet can afford. Your money will be going directly to a well-respected and well-organised charity whose sole aim is to save the lives of Zac and other sick children like him.
Many, many, thanks for whatever you choose to donate.
