Great Wall Trek

WHY DID I DO THIS?
Pancreatic cancer is the 5th most common cause of cancer death in the UK, and it has the lowest survival rate of the most common cancers. Despite this, it receives just 1% of cancer research funding. Pancreatic Cancer UK is a charity that is working to change this.
For my family and I, PCUK is a charity that is very close to our hearts. When my Uncle lost his life to pancreatic cancer at just 54 years old, it was all far too quick. He was diagnosed too late, there simply wasn't the treatment available and we all felt a huge injustice. Since then, major strides have been made, with new drugs in development and extensive research into new treatment options. I wanted to do something to help - which is why, this year, I decided to go for a really long walk to raise money for PCUK!
WHAT DID I DO?
The Great Wall Trek is a five day hike along the Great Wall of China, with a group of 20 PCUK trekkers. Starting four hours north of Beijing, we hiked along the winding path of the wall, through mountains of the Gubeikou Gateway, finishing at the top of the famous Heavenly Stairway. The hike was a mixture of renovated and untouched parts of the wall, and involved enormous staircases at high altitudes - so I trained for a few months in advance to get ready!
My goal was to raise £4000 for PCUK.
