UPDATE 2 Sep 2023

UPDATE 3 Sep 2023

WE DID IT!!!! So tired but what a finale riding up to the Arc De Triomphe. Thank you to all my incredible sponsors, and to the friends I made along the way.

UPDATE 2 Sep 2023

A glorious day on day 3, sun was hot but the ride was great, what a difference 24 makes.

UPDATE 1 Sep 2023

85 miles today, at least 70 of which were in pissing down rain. A tough day, and definitely feeling it all over.

UPDATE 31 Aug  2023

Day 1 started at 0630 and at 13:30 I arrived into Dover - 85 miles later. 90% fun, 10% OMFG!  Very pleased with my fitness at this stage. I am so humbled by the flood of sponsorship too, my friends and family are legends. Bloomberg will also match what I raise, thank you Mike!!

Just had a quad massage from the Manchester United ladies physio, incredible. Very appreciated

Ferry in 1 hour. - coffee time, maybe a beer with dinner.

Will add photos.

UPDATE 28 Aug  2023

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been head down grafting to get ready for the ride that starts this Thursday!

After some good rides in Spain I spent 9 days in Cornwall and accumulated 150 miles of hills over 7 rides. Brutal hills that will hopefully not be replicated on my way to Paris 😳. Carb loading until the start line. Thanks everyone for your support so far.

0630 start on 31st August, feel free to wish me well. Best to message on WhatsApp  +447767436720.

I will do a daily blog on here too.

UPDATE 09 Aug  2023

Early start today headed west out of Estepona and did a mixed session of hills and coastal cycle paths. Legs feeling the miles but all good. Earning a few cold beers later 🍻🚴🏻

UPDATE 08 Aug  2023

Went for distance today rather than altitude. Legs like lead but feeling good!

UPDATE 07 Aug  2023

First ride in the Costa Del Sol was a beast, I could only manage to hire a mountain bike with fat boy tyres, oh well figured it’s best to train hard fight easy as my old voicing coach Kenny Statt used to remind us. With The late great Statty in mind I left at sunrise for a hills session, Well a mountain actually 😳 called Reales. I managed a 90 minute climb and realised why I ride a carbon road bike in slicks at home 🤣 I didn’t realise you could miss a bike so much. At least the decent was fun. I detoured off to Estepona marina on the way back to stretch out a few more miles. Time to take the boys swimming now!

UPDATE 22 July 2023

First things first; thank you so much to all of my wonderful sponsors, I’ve smashed my target of £1500 and am delighted. Mike Bloomberg will match up to £2500, so please do still donate if you wish to.

Today marks the first day of the kids summer break, so as expected we have been forecast with 10 days of rain and gale force winds. I decided to set my Tacx trainer back up and did a sprints session in the French hills.

Much more difficult than the open roads, but much safer in these conditions.

Taking my bike to Spain and Cornwall to train through August, and keep the beer consumption low.

UPDATE 16 July 2023

A short 20km hills session today, and kept it to just under one hour. The weather here in South Wales hasn’t improved much in the last 24 hours either (see photo’s below) Yesterday was a challenging ride too so feeling it today. A good weekend though and feeling inspired after a flurry of donations, thanks to the great people I am fortunate to call friends 🫡 and happy birthday to my much older brother Scott who kindly donated some of his birthday money to me. Legend.

UPDATE 15 July 2023

Only a little over 6 weeks away to my biggest challenge since joining the army as a boy soldier. Difference is I am 34 years wiser these days! Phys at 50 is certainly far more painful than it was at 16.

Regardless of the lack of training opportunities, I have been notching up the miles since my last update, and intend to take my bike on holiday, swapping the Sangria for H2O and building up some daily endurance.

I am 77% on track to my fundraising target of £1500 that my fantastic boss Mr Bloomberg will match, so please try and find a £1 or 2 to help me raise money for this wonderful cause. Please remember to tick gift aid and RBL can claim back the 20% VAT on top at no extra cost to you.

UPDATE 19 May 2023

After recovering from chickenpox and a weekend on the lash at the Cavalry Memorial Parade, just done another 20 miles along the coastal hills is South Wales!

UPDATE 01 May 2023

Bank Holiday Monday….20 miles more in the hills of Wales!

UPDATE 30 Apr 2023

Another 20 miler in 60 minutes today, which makes 40 miles in the saddle and a 3.5 miles running this week. Nowhere near enough but slowly building up the stamina. If you’ve not sponsored me yet please do if you can afford to, even £1 anonymous donations would give me more inspiration and determination not to fail!

UPDATE 16 Apr 2023

3.5 Months to go and feeling 50!!

Just done 32km in a hour and feeling good but don’t want to overdo it.

UPDATE 11 Feb 2023

6 months to go and training proper today on the TacX smart trainer. 25k in the virtual hills of Bavaria & Harrogate…. So unfit!

Please help motivate me over the coming months. I’m still £500 short of my fundraising target too so please sponsor me if you can afford to donate a few £’s to an epic cause. Obviously if you have sponsored me already then ignore the last part, and thank you again ❤️

IMPORTANT UPDATE 31 Aug 2022

Dear supporters

I am really sorry but this year I am unable to participate in this years event that you all kindly donated to.

This is because I was on the reserve list, and unfortunately did not make the team as not enough people cancelled. I had full confidence that I would get a spot as last year there were tons of cancellations.

HOWEVER

I have already booked and paid my personal contribution of £259 for my GUARANTEED spot in 2023

I am therefore requesting that your donations can be carried forward so that they still go to this great cause next summer. If this is ok with you all, no action is required. If anyone objects to this please let me know and I will figure out how to get your contribution reimbursed.

_______________________________________________________________________

I’m raising money for the RBL this year because they support our community and make a difference every day.

I am doing this in the memory of all Light Dragoons that have lost their lives in the service to our country, and for all the soldiers and veterans that are struggling after combat.

Don’t suffer in silence!
