Story
Baby loss doesn't just affect the parents - it affects everyone, grandparents, siblings, other family members and friends and everyone's way of dealing with grief is different. Bumpy was Daisy's big brother who she never got to meet, but she has still been affected by his loss as have our older children. Daisy therefore wanted to take on her own challenge to raise funds and awareness of Saying Goodbye and the support the charity provides.
Why we are raising funds for Saying Goodbye
In 2012 my husband and I were told the words no parent ever wants to hear. “I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat”. Our son Bumpy was born sleeping at 18 weeks. We were fortunate to be supported by our amazing family and friends after losing Bumpy however, I had days went I felt very alone and that people did not understand what we were going though. We attended our first Saying Goodbye remembrance service in 2013. It was at this service that for the first time since our loss, that I finally realised that I was not alone, that it was ok to feel the way I did. Surrounded by other families who were on their own journey, we were able to light a candle, ring a bell, listen to beautiful music and remember our Son.
Saying Goodbye have helped us so much we now want to help others by raising both vital funds and heightening awareness of the work and support available through the charity.
This page was initially set up, as my husband David and close friend Nicky took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in October 2019 to raise funds for Saying Goodbye, we have now extended the page to include all the fundraising events we take part in to share the support from the local community.
Prior to setting us this page, with the support of family and friends we have arranged Charity Balls(Snowballs) Fun days, taking part in various sporting events, fun runs, Active warriors challenges, zipwires and a Skydive to support Saying Goodbye. We also support the charity by attending remembrance services across the UK.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story anything you can donate will be very gratefully received. The money raised enables the charity to provide free support to anyone who has been affected by the loss of a baby, pre or post natal also supports anyone who is grieving the fact that they have not been able to have children, for whatever reason that may be. The Charity provide remembrance services, support leaflets in hospital, befriends details of which can be found on the website https://www.sayinggoodbye.org.
On behalf of Saying Goodbye, a massive thank you to everyone for all your support.
