Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We are two second year college students from Shiplake College who want to push ourselves and our abilities whilst raising money for young athletes. After all the help SportsAid gave Jo last year on her journey to the Junior World Rowing Championships and victory at Henley we believe there isn't a more appropriate charity to raise money for.
SportsAid helps young disabled and non-disabled athletes to achieve their ambitions.
These athletes are typically aged 12 to 18 and include some of Britain’s brightest hopes for future Olympic and Paralympic success. They typically train for more than 15 hours a week on top of school or college commitments; travel 650 miles a month to train and compete; spend more than £6,400 a year on their sport.
At this stage of an athlete's career, sponsorship deals can be hard to find, so most rely entirely on their family and SportsAid for financial support.
Jo has benefitted directly from SportsAid and wants to give something back.
Daisy discovered some new sport in 2012 when she learned to row and was introduced to running.
Both girls are motivated by their own experience and were inspired by the success of Team GB and Paralympics GB in 2012.
"This is going to be a challenge for both of us; both have to make sacrifices and adaptations in our final A-level year at college to turn up on race day as fit as possible ready to endure 26.4 miles."
"We are not only looking to complete the marathon but we both set ourselves finishing time targets whilst also raising as much money for our chosen charity, SportsAid, as possible so they can continue to support aspiring young athletes."
