Story
Ellie was diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) at 21 months old. This shock diagnosis resulted in surgery two months later, followed by six extremely long and challenging months immobile in a spica cast.
Our little wonky donkey astounded us with her stoic determination and resourcefulness during this time, and we have shared some of the tears and laughs that spica life bought to our family through a video

We would not have managed this journey without the help of STEPS - from preparing us for what to expect (we didn't even know what a spica cast was, and googling it definitely sent us into a panic!) to loaning us a special car seat. And most importantly providing a supportive community to get hints and tips (& venting opportunities!)
Ellie's journey is far from over, and we have recently had the incredibly frustrating news that her x-rays are not looking good and further, more invasive, surgery is highly likely within the year.
Ellie will be participating in this years Hip Dip sponsored swim, with her twin brother and biggest cheerleader Toby splashing alongside her! If you are able to donate towards this valuable cause we would all hugely appreciate it - we are hoping to raise £350, which would train a UK health professional in lower limb conditions. We are aiming for a 10 metre splash, so if you can sponsor Ellie for 10p a metre that would be amazing (unless you want to be like her Uncle Supernoodle and do a 1p per metre exponential growth sponsorship 😉)
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this - whether you support us through sponsorship or the invaluable emotional and practical (& chocolate & alcohol!) support which we are lucky enough to receive. We feel so fortunate that Ellie is part of such an incredible 'village' of people who love and care for her so much, and give us the strength to help her during the times that we flag.
