Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We will be walking the Surrey 7k Memory Walk on Sunday 26th September 2021 in aid of relatives in both families suffering with dementia.

Daisy and Lorna’s Story - Lorna’s mum and Daisy’s Nanny was diagnosed with dementia following a severe stroke in late 2019. She was placed into a care home in mid 2020 and due to COVID-19 restrictions was unable to see any of us until Spring 2021. This has caused turmoil for our close knit family as we miss her all the time. Unfortunately nanny now has very minimal speech, is chair/bed bound and is very emotional all the time, and that is only a few of her symptoms. Many of you know what a presence Nan was - she loved life and loved people and had many “friends” in town. We are did not know how hard this journey would be until we came to it ourselves and raising money so more families can be supported is a worthwhile task. Sadly, Nanny’s husband Ken, is also now in early stages of dementia, unfortunately this seems to have been triggered by his depression from being unable to see Nanny. Grandad has a dementia nurse that spends time with him and chats which is an excellent resource we hope funds raised can go towards. Thank you for reading this essay - any money donated would be thanked to no end.

Ryan’s Story - Ryan’s nanny Doreen, also has dementia, she is too in a home and being cared for by a dementia team. Ryans nanny is a lovely, Irish woman who never fails to make his family smile. She is sweet, kind, caring Catholic lady who continues to love to dish out sweeties to everyone she sees! Sadly Ryans family have also been very limited on seeing Doreen over the COVID pandemic but as restrictions have been eased - Ryan has also now been able to see his nanny in her home. Ryan hopes that as much money can be raised for this great charity so we can continue to support people with dementia.
