Having experienced nine miscarriages including one during lockdown I know how hard it is and how vital the organisation is where support can otherwise be lacking. It's a heart breaking and often isolating experience.
The Miscarriage Association provides a wealth of information, support and other's stories to help women feel less alone.
I've come to the campaign a bit late but I've got just under a month until 15 October, which coincides with the end of 'Baby loss awareness week' to get in as many miles as I can, mainly cycling and walking. I'm aiming to clock up 90 miles, 10 for each of our losses.
My 8 year old daughter Amelie will be doing much of it with me. We're ditching the car and cycling the 2 miles to school and back. I'll also be walking with family and some of my lovely friends who have been a great support during difficult times.
My reason for doing this is to create something positive following my own experiences, raise awareness for the association and for miscarriage in general. It's not taught to children (girls and boys) in school that this is a common part of a couple's journey to having children. If it was it wouldn't be such a shock to so many.
Miscarriage affects one in four pregnancies. It's not spoken about enough and it should be.
