ALL THE MONEY RAISED BY THIS FUNDRAISING PAGE WILL BE RESTRICTED TO RHYL LIFE BOAT SERVICE.
A rainy and grey afternoon on Rhyl promenade, the wind is howling from the Northeast as usual and the claxon is screaming on the side of Rhyl Lifebout station. Within minutes, work and rest time has been paused, cars are racing into the station car park.
Without a second thought the Rhyl crew are changed, aboard and launch into a raging swell.....a life is saved and I'm still on the prom and humbled.....
The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. Powered primarily by kind donations. Their search and rescue service has now been saving lives for nearly 200 years. Rhyl Lifeboat Station was established in 1852 and is one of the busiest stations in Wales. The new boathouse was completed in 2001 celebrating 20 years this year. They need continuous funding to support their main Shannon class lifeboat, 'Anthony Kenneth Heard,' their inshore rib, equipment and training. Deputy 2nd coxswain Paul Frost MBE remindes me that it costs over £1,000 for every launch and recovery of the lifeboat! If we can help to fund one of those launches how good will that feel. We can all sit on the prom and share a little pride in what we have achieved.
Okay there is a little hill to climb or should I say a long run to bag!! I have set myself a 50th Birthday goal of running the London Marathon (gulp!!) to raise funds for the Rhyl Crew.....Covid has hit and we are nearly two years on from my big birthday and the Virgin Money London Marathon team accepting my application. I'm still keeping everything crossed that the event can go ahead this year. I'm confident it will! So, for the second time I'm am well progressed in my training programme and pushing my long covid to the limits. Huge thanks for all of the ongoing support from Sam and team at Crossfit OL1, Steve at Hatton Running for his coaching and encouragement and not forgetting much needed physio support from Dan Lees who puts me back together again when parts fail!!
My runs are getting longer and longer and the enormity of my challenge is starting to hit home (anyone else chose this for a 50th milestone??) The courage of the crew launching into the unknown is a massive motivator for me and is keeping me going on these ever lengthening runs...especially when the Oldham weather is grey and wet!
So, I need your help. My target is to fund a launch. That's £1,000. A huge number in these times where life is not easy! If you can share some money to help a cause that has suffered low donations throughout the Pandemic it would be amazing. Please click the button and help me with my Goal to reach the finish line!
