Story
Harry's Hydrocephalus Awareness Trust (Harry's HAT) is a small charity set up by Caroline and Matt, the parents of Harry, who, like my son Lucas, suffers with Hydrocephalus.
Lucas developed Hydrocephalus at 3 months, a condition that means that he cannot drain fluid from his brain. Currently, the only solution to this is to have a shunt fitted and since he first had the shunt put in, he has had to have another 25 neurosurgical operations.
We were very lucky that Lucas was diagnosed whilst in A&E for another issue, but babies will only be diagnosed quickly and effectively if their heads are measured properly after their birth. This is why babies heads are measured and recorded after birth. Very few people know this, I didn't.
Like most conditions, the earlier they are found, the better the outcome. If parents knew that there is a 1 in 770 chance of their baby having hydrocephalus and that head circumference measurement is a vital tool for finding it, then they would push to make sure their baby gets measured.
Your donation will support a vital campaign to help highlight the importance of head measurements to all new parents by producing information cards.
Thank you.
